About Soul Temple Wellness
by Monica Espinosa

I honor the place in you that is the same in me. I honor the place in you where the whole universe resides. I honor the place in you of love, of light, of peace and of truth. I honor the place in you that is the same in me. There is but one.....  Namaste

Everyday I am on a journey I suppose I started when I was a child. I grew up in Mexico hearing the stories of the women who were healers in my family. I come from a long line of females who were traditional midwives, herbalist healers and energy workers. Someday I will write a blog to honor these women.

Since I was a young girl I was naturally drawn to the spiritual teachings of the far east. And throughout my life, I've been drawn to the pursuit of understanding and purpose of the soul and our relationship to the universe as human beings. I have been blessed to sit and study under world class yoga teachers and gurus presenting the traditional and ancient teachings that are often lost in modern yoga practice. The deeper I go, the more there is to learn. From the traditional eight limbs of yoga to the relationship between spirit, intention and consciousness, it is my blessing and gift to help others join me on this path.

My Story

My heart is my religion, my body is my temple.

I started my wellness path many years ago in Mexico as a competitive swimmer, where I competed at state and national championships. Those years taught me the value of discipline and mental focus to create change. Later, after university in Mexico, I trained and worked as a spin and fitness trainer. After I moved to Canada I was blessed with three beautiful girls. I took some time to be a mom, one of my greatest, most difficult and rewarding life trainings. When the girls were a little older I continued my education and training path. Today, I am a certified Yoga Therapist RYT 500 hours, I graduated from the Yoga Studio College of Canada, founded by Valery Petrich in 1996, one of the only females who studied directly under B.K.S Iyengar in India, one of the foremost yoga Gurus in the world. I have  specialized in therapeutic yoga for older adults, trauma  (PTSD), chronic pain, arthritis, autoimmune disease, stress relief and other ailments. I primarily follow BKS Iyengar style yoga. I am also trained as a certified Indian Head Massage Therapist (Ayurvedic Yoga branch). As well, I am certified and trained to teach restorative yoga and meditation. Recently I also trained to teach pre-natal yoga. Throughout my practice I integrate imagery visualization techniques, energy healing, meditation, sound and vibrational healing, and aromatherapy.I am based in Calgary, Canada and teach around the city in different yoga studios, community centers and private clubs as well as I have been offering a variety of private one on one sessions and recently during COVID 19, online trainings and classes which turned out to be a ray of light during a time of uncertainty for me personally, and for my lovely yogis.I was also honored to become part of a small group of yoga therapists working together with Calgary Rheumatologist Dr. Steve Edworthy and Kim McNeil BSc RYT, launching Yoga for Rheumatic Conditions, one of the first such treatment collaborations in North America. I also specialize in Yoga for Stroke Recovery, teaching yoga therapy weekly  to  the Stroke Recovery Association of Calgary. In my practice I strive to provide a safe and nurturing space to heal and to reconnect with yourself. The more I learn it seems the less I know so I try to continuously expand my skills and knowledge through advanced trainings.Your body is a road map of your journey through life, every physical, emotional or mental scar, stretch mark, birthmark, all tell a personal story. The road of yoga is endless - it all starts with a pose and a thought, and expands into a never-ending path of self discovery and growth. I value each and every person who joins me in this path towards a better quality of life.
